Seeing as the name 'Booooooom' is the only feature that has to be included, I want to play around with creative typography. Some ideas:
- the 'Boooooo' in the word could be associated with ghosts
- the multiple 'o's could be an illustration of balloons or doughnuts, which are fun and upbeat.
I didn't come up with many initial ideas right off the bat, so I doodled in illustrator what came into my head:
I drew the balloons idea, which is cute but seems too childish and simple. I'm not inspired by the ghost sketch, it feels too simple also. I need something that stands out.
As seen underneath, I used a few layers of transparent colour to write the word, using contrasting colours. I quite like how it turned out, as it reflects imperfection and expression. I did a few others ina a similar style.
I drew some finished doughnuts in the word 'booooooom', and then experimented with the layout. I found the top right designs too muddled and busy so I went back to the original but changed the doughnut designs a little to make them all a similar shape. I found this to make the layout neater and more pleasing.
Final sticker designs
I submitted both of these designs to the website. I chose to use a set colour palette of four colours for the doughnuts to make it stylised; beforehand there were too many contrasting colours.
I printed the first design on sticker paper, so to create how it would actually feel. It seems that the type of paper is similar to matte, which isn't what I had in mind but I didn't know there were more than one type of sticker paper. It would be more effective if the stickers were shiny, as they would seem bright and a little more exciting. This has taught me to learn more in advance about stock next time.
I think they both reflect creativity and have helped me build my illustrative skills.
If this were a bigger and more important brief, then maybe I would have delved more into a concept behind my ideas - but it is very lighthearted and all about the visual. Sometimes that is alright!
