GF Smith Archive // Research and development

From some light researching into the origin of the colour, I found these interesting facts:
  • it describes both a bright shade and a dark shade of azure blue
  • it is said to have been invented by millers in Rode, Somerset
  • it is a traditional colour of writing ink
  • it was used through multiple Windows operating systems as the background colour for the 'Blue Screen of Death' - which is what appears when there is a system failure
  • 'queen blue' is a name for a lighter shade of royal blue
